The Provence is located in the south-east of France and consists of six departments (Vaucluse, Bouches-du-Rhône, Var, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes and Alpes-Maritimes). It lies between mountains and sea, the summits of the alpes and the Mediterranean Coast.
When you speak of “Provence” you have the picture of violet shining lavender fields, small mountain villages and Mediterranean landscapes in your mind. This original Provence landscape is found in the départements Vaucluse with the beautiful Avignon, in Bouches-du-Rhône with the famous Marseille, in Toulon in the département Var and in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence with the capital Digne-les-Bains.
There is no other region better known for the varied light games and the lavender fields as the Provence. This has also captivated many of the famous painters such as Cézanne, Picasso, Chagall or Vincent Van Gogh. But not only for painters it is a great attraction.
The landscape, with its magnificent coasts, beaches and rustic villages and chic old towns, offers a lot to discover. Bicycle and hiking fans will love it and photographers will find endless inspirations.
The world-famous herbal mixes of the “Herbes de Provence” are growing in the wild. The local markets with fresh and colorful goods and first-class wine create a fragrance of incomparable spiciness in the air.
